2 generations and 40 years of expanding horizon through eyewear excellence |
1979 Vintage NYC // Mott Street, Chinatown
“
The Chinatown Optical roots were first planted in America by Siki Ma, the patriarch of the company, who arrived from Southern China in the 1970s. Siki's passion was to help people and saw a need for fashionable and functional eyewear for the recent Chinese immigrant community in Lower Manhattan. He began selling eyeglasses and edging customized lenses in his small shop on Mott Street and in Manhattan's famed Chinatown.

In 40 years, a lot has changed in Chinatown NYC, but also a lot has stayed the same. Just like our neighborhood, Chinatown Optical has reflected that dynamic change but also kept one eye planted firmly in the past and dedicated to the customers and the community who helped make us who we are today.

“
From 1979 to today. Chinatown Optical's story is, above all else, one of a family that has been passionate about sourcing and dispensing eyewear and providing excellent customer eyecare as an independent company since 1979. With four decades of dedication to our patients, innovation, and high standards, Chinatown Optical is deeply rooted in the NYC eyewear scene and culture.
