Matsuda Eyewear
50 Years of Exploration
For over 50 years, Matsuda has been at the forefront of exploration in fashion design. In the 1960s, founder Mitsuhiro Matsuda began to experiment with deconstructing western design through the lens of traditional Japanese fashion. His designs were playful, innovative, and deeply connected to the past, blending elements of European romance, Gothic architecture, Victorian art, and American jazz. Matsuda's work opened the door for a new wave of avant-garde design that was rooted in cultural heritage but designed for the future.
Today, Matsuda continues to push the boundaries of fashion, combining exquisite craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology and materials to create unique, timeless pieces that are coveted by fashion enthusiasts and collectors around the world. With a legacy of innovation and a commitment to quality, Matsuda stands as a testament to the enduring power of creativity and exploration in fashion design.
250 Steps, 71 hours, and 13 Craftsmen
At Matsuda, they take pride in their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality. Each of our eyewear designs is crafted by hand in the renowned eyewear workshops of Sabae, Japan, a region known for its unparalleled craftsmanship and expertise. Bringing the designs to life requires up to two years and as many as 250 steps, each frame reflecting a unique journey from concept to construction.
Matusda believe that true beauty lies in the intersection of tradition and innovation. By combining time-honored techniques with cutting-edge technology, they create eyewear that is not only stunning in its design but also unparalleled in its quality and craftsmanship.
Masters of Metal
Matsuda believe that exceptional design begins with exceptional materials. That's why they use only the finest metals in the world, including titanium, stainless steel, sterling silver, and 18k solid gold, in crafting our eyewear. Their master Japanese craftsmen transform these raw materials into intricately detailed works of art, employing techniques that few others would attempt.
Matsuda commitment to quality over mass production is reflected in every aspect of our work. From the careful selection of materials to the precise execution of each detail, the craftsmen approach every step of the process with a dedication to excellence. It's this unwavering commitment to quality that has made Matsuda a name synonymous with luxury and artistry.
Sculptors of Acetate
Matsuda Japanese acetate forms are sculpted exclusively from an organic plastic derived from cotton, which is then cured for over three months prior to construction. This lengthy process produces uniquely rich colors that are unmatched in strength and durability.
Matsuda commitment to quality doesn't stop with the selection of materials. Each piece of acetate is carefully hand-finished by master polishers who have apprenticed for 10 years to perfect their technique. This results in a remarkably soft feel and a finish that is both elegant and enduring. Their eyewear is sculpted for a lifetime of hard use, ensuring that each piece will remain a cherished part of your collection for years to come.
